ANYONE who has a 360, PLEASE help! ;[? -

A couple days ago, I got a 360. An elite, to be exact. I hooked it up and played Fallout 3 to my little heart's desire. But yesterday when I went to hook the beast up online, I came across a problem.
After recovering my gamertag and such, I discovered I lost all my achievements that I had already got from Fallout 3. Then, when I went to go play Fallout 3, it acted as if I lost all my save files (the only option was New). About to explode, I reset the game and it THEN let me play my save files again. Needless to say, this was odd.
After finishing with Fallout 3, I went back to the dashboard to get on Windows Live, and when it came to the option to add people on your list who have xbox live to your friends list, it froze. I reset, and it did this same thing another three times before I finally just skipped the step.
I then later turned off my 360 again. After about an hour or two, I turned it back on to play a demo. Only to discover I had to sign up for live AGAIN! So I put in my email and password, agreed to their agreement and it was done.
Now while all this was happening, my boyfriend who used to have a 360 himself was telling me there could be a problem with the system, and I might have to take it back. Which of course made/makes me want to go insane.
Now just this morning, I turned my 360 on again to play Fallout 3, and discovered I had to sign up for live AGAIN. So I put my email and password in, agreed to their agreement and went on my merry way.
So tell me, is this normal? Or is it a real problem? How do I fix it?
